Abstract: Fortunato Pastrana, a state governor, tells his constituents he is just like them: he was once a poor man who fell in love with a hacienda patron's daughter, but to no avail. Now that he is governor, he is redistributing land to the poor and providing water, food and schools. His policies have earned him many enemies, including the Don Hermosillo, the hacienda owner, who sends his daughter to warn Pastrana to change his policies.
