Abstract: Marcello and Ana María are newlyweds who have recently met on a cruise on which Marcello is the captain. They arrive at a tropical hotel which caters specifically to the recently married, and are treated royally by the staff. Marcello, excited for his wedding night, prepares for bed, but Ana María is reluctant and avoids him. She tells him that she feels she doesn't know him well enough, and that she will require one or two months of "getting to know each other" before they can consummate the marriage. Marcello is driven crazy in anticipation over the next several days.
