(from another context. very short summit)

In Germany (as probably most countries), there are quite many cases of kids who suffer after psychological profiling by semiprofessional youth welfare office staffs or school psychologists. I was one of those teens. During a bitter divorce battle my mother (like many young women) got falsely denunciated to be drug addicted and mentally ill. This led to 5 major psychological evaluations and dozens of worse 'social pedagogue' involvements in a time frame of 10 years, beginning at age 3. Worse was asthma; my father attacked my illness as 'imagination', a sissification by my mother. I had to grow up in a therefore poisoned family which at some point came under the influence of antipsychiatry. Everything done for me got seen as "the psychologists will turn this around us, anyways, because you're to weak anyways", and me accused of "working against my family together with my biological father's psychologists" from age 5+ on s.t. on daily basis, investigating any possible child behavior in the context of intentional conspiracy or deviance which might provide psychologists with a target. You can imagine the damage, esp. if all family parts still continue to love, so it's pure terror.

I have the disorder (obsessive compulsive) since age 8, never treated. The evaluations were from age 3-8. After this, I had the same bitter path as most in such way abused kids: you get bullied at school because incompetent teachers not knowing how to deal with their classes need + tend to make outsiders. After school (if you survive it) with all your wounds, you fail in life, e.g. at college get mobbed, again.

It's pretty obvious that many self harm teens have similar backgrounds. Most of them kill themselves or end up on drugs. The conventional treatments like behavioral therapy fail (worsening the syndrome) because patients have this deep fear of psychologists they never can cope with. Any contact to psychotherapists hurts. If treated with psychotropic drugs, there is a risk to lateron commit suicide (which despite cheap media coverage not in every case is a chemical side effect of the drug). Any however possible influence on the own psyche results in extreme self-purification acts. Under the impression not to be able to regain full control, one might tend to discipline her/himself due to certain self harm, in the worst case people kill themselves. (This is also a very common belief in the Wiccan and Gothic context: 'It only dies if you do.')

While many psychotherapists have their own experience-based views on this, there is no accepted standard of treatment, nor a definition (such would be difficult to establish since could be seen as 'a disorder caused by psychologists' in the sense of them making money out of own malpractice... as political discussion most likely blaims 'psychiatry' for youth authorities' mistakes). It's not pure obsessive compulsive, either, more a mix with early childhood trauma of choleric families' hell, sexual abuse etc., all of whose never got treated but were welcome stuff to poke around in.
